Artists that would bring ka-pow to your game.

Up until now we have only looked at the artists behind board games. Today we are going to look forward at point at brilliant 4 artists we admire and think would bring something fresh and unique to boardgames if they where hired. Prior to our choice we did not know if these artist had worked on any games before – but we found out and will share it on the way! Here they are in no specific order.

Nr 1. Tom Gauld

I have long followed Tom’s work and just love the simple and underplayed jokes. His strict format enables stories to live their own life. I imagine his art could bring and awesome layer to a game story. Imagine Innovation in Tom Gauld style! Tom have not worked on board games but would be interested if the right opportunity came along.

Nr. 2 Ian McQue

Ian is a extremely talented speed painter. I don’t know if he is quick but he is very productive. I call him speed painter because of his loose and textured style. With a specific interest for flying steam vehicles (it seems) or any retro-futuristic machinery he makes you smell the oils and sense the scale. Ian did work on a board game before. He did the cover on Planet Steam from Fantasy Flight. Will Ian deliver the next Scythe?

Nr.3 Anna-Maria Jung

It tells you something about Anna that her e-mail signature says “My hovercraft is full of eels!”. Anna is a comic artist with a very consistent personal style with appealing color schemes. Her single image jokes a humorous with a warm touch of playfulness. How would a game like Secret Hitler look if she had been the artist? Anna did some work on an indie RPG – and say would be interested in game art if the project is right.

Nr. 4 Mackenzie Schubert

This guy came up when I started looking in my old bookmarks to see who I would choose. I just love the style. The illustrations are almost flat colored sketches in earth tones. There is a lot of imagination in the designs. From his tumbr it show that he worked on the game Penny Press. Mackenzie would also be awesome on a game like Secret Hitler…oh wait he was the designer of Secret Hitler. This guy is way to “game”-famous to be on this list.

Nr 4. B YAO YAO – china

Ok I throw in an extra artist in the pot to make up for it. I don’t know anything about Yao Yao – other that I simply love the character design and image style. See the portfolio on Behance.
